Sarah Murray

Sarah K. Murray joined Baron & Budd’s Environmental Litigation Group as an associate attorney in 2020. Her focus is on helping with the representation of the hundreds of individuals and public entities harmed by toxic chemicals and other contaminants around the country.

Prior to joining the firm as an attorney, Ms. Murray worked as an intern for Baron & Budd’s Environmental Group, starting in 2016. Ever since her first day as an intern, Ms. Murray knew she wanted to be a part of the compassionate and dedicated Baron & Budd Environmental team. Observing the attorneys’ zealous commitment to preserving our precious natural resources by bringing justice to clients harmed by the malfeasance of negligent corporations solidified Ms. Murray’s decision to attend law school.

Ms. Murray completed her undergraduate education at Tarleton State University in Texas. There, her studies clearly reflected her passion for the environment. She was the first student to sign up for the University’s Sustainability Studies major. In addition, she was an active member of several environmental advocacy groups and participated in two study-abroad programs with an environmental focus.

In addition to the environment, Ms. Murray is fanatical about literature and travel. One of her study-abroad adventures was a month-long camping excursion that took her through four different countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Most nights were spent with nothing more than a canvas tent separating her from lions, hippos, elephants and hyenas roaming about. Among the most momentous experiences of that trip was seeing the magnificent Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River that marks the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. She also sampled Mopane worms, the edible caterpillar of an emperor moth and a major source of sustenance and food industry in southern Africa. Ms. Murray says that immersing herself in a wide variety of African civilizations led to a deeper understanding of the importance of conservation and how various cultures approach human-wildlife conflict.

Ms. Murray received her Juris Doctor with a certificate in Environmental Law from Lewis & Clark School of Law in Portland, Oregon. During law school, she worked for an environmental legal clinic, primarily dealing in environmental administrative law. Moreover, she completed a federal judicial clerkship for the Honorable Judge Stacie F. Beckerman at the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. It was during her clerkship for Judge Beckerman that Sarah Murray learned the value of immersive mentorship. The lessons she absorbed by observing the remarkable judicial skill and empathetic leadership style with which this formidable judge nurtured the clerks under her wing instilled in Ms. Murray an immense respect for Judge Beckerman as a teacher of life, not just law.

Ms. Murray chose to attend Lewis & Clark Law School specifically because of its nationally renowned environmental law program. She chose a career at Baron & Budd because of its stellar reputation as an ardent defender of our fragile environment.
