Notable Mesothelioma Lawsuit Settlements In Louisiana and New Orleans

ABRAM V. EPEC OIL CO., 2005-0626 (LA.APP. 4 CIR. 6/28/06)

In 2000, the Abram family filed a lawsuit in St. Bernard Parish seeking an injury claim for his mesothelioma diagnosis following decades of employment at Tenneco Oil Company in Chalmette, Louisiana. Later the lawsuit was amended to include a wrongful death claim and appoint his wife and children as heirs and recipients of any financial settlements post-mortem.

Mr. Abram, the plaintiff, was exposed to asbestos during his time as an employee of Tenneco (Bought by Mobil Oil in 1988) where he worked on the production line manufacturing roofing tiles. The Abram family was awarded $2,500,000 by the court. The defendant (EPEC Oil) fought to have the settlement verdict appealed but our legal team won the appeal as well.

NUNEZ V. OWENS CORNING CO., (LA. 15th JDC CIR. 3/2/2000)

Earlon Nunez, 49, died from mesothelioma from asbestos exposure in Abbeville, Louisiana. The Nunez family filed a lawsuit against Flexitallic after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma from asbestos exposure. Nunez served proudly in the US Navy for 10 years, working as a boilerman below deck on the USS Kyes.

He worked in the boiler room, where his duties included changing gaskets that were later found to contain asbestos. The jury ruled awarded the Nunez family a total of $1,072,000 at the conclusion of the trial.
