In 2000, the Abram family filed a lawsuit in St. Bernard Parish seeking an injury claim for his mesothelioma diagnosis following decades of employment at Tenneco Oil Company in Chalmette, Louisiana. Later the lawsuit was amended to include a wrongful death claim and appoint his wife and children as heirs and recipients of any financial settlements post-mortem.

Mr. Abram, the plaintiff, was exposed to asbestos during his time as an employee of Tenneco (Bought by Mobil Oil in 1988) where he worked on the production line manufacturing roofing tiles.
