It’s just as bad as it sounds: Fifty-one percent of Texas’1,193 nursing homes receiving Medicare or Medicaid earned merely one or two stars out of a five-star rating system.
Of course, this may not be such a surprise if you’ve been following our previous alerts on the dangers of nursing homes in Texas (like the neglected dementia resident severely injured in Lockhart by a swarm of fire ants or multiple incidences of neglect in Tyler).
- Arbor Terrace Healthcare Center in San Angelo
- Oakcrest Manor Nursing Home in Austin
- Windsor Houston in Houston
- Care Inn of Abilene in Abilene
- Fortress Health and Rehab in College Station
Of these five nursing homes, Arbor Terrace, Oakcrest Manor and Windsor Houston have recently been added to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Watch “Special Focus Facility” list, meaning the nursing homes recently received a survey in which Did Not pass.
In addition, Care Inn and Fortress Health, two nursing homes that have already been on the CMS Watch list, have just received another survey and — as of October 15th –have been found to have not improved.
Unsafe or poor quality nursing homes do not only risk the lives of our elderly loved ones. They also cost our state an arm and foot, not to mention the astronomical cost to individual families.
Texas, you can do better! As experienced nursing home abuse lawyers, we also demand it.
