Today, oil from the BP oil spill was found on Freemason Island in Louisiana’s Chandeleur Islands. There had been reports of oil reaching the shore in the past several days, but today marks the first confirmed landfall of the oil spill. In response, Coast Guard crews struggled to move protective booms around the island. It is not yet known how much oil reached shore.
