NHTSA reports 89 deaths potentially linked to defective Toyotas
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) over the past decade has received reports of 89 deaths and 57 injuries related to the sudden, unintended acceleration of Toyota vehicles. Between 2000 and the middle of May 2010, it also received over 6,200 complaints of sudden acceleration.
Toyota Motor Corporation has in recent months recalled more than 8 million vehicles due to problems of sudden acceleration, brakes, gas pedals, and floor mats.
