Alabama heart center resolves whistleblower lawsuit

The Heart Center of East Alabama has entered into a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice to resolve charges made against the medical provider. A lawsuit filed under the federal False Claims Act charged that Heart Center employees performed stress tests on cardiac patients without a physician’s direct supervision. The misconduct occurred at centers in Opelika and Wedowee. Two former employees of the east Alabama provider filed the original lawsuit. Pursuant to the Qui Tam provisions of the False Claims Act, they will share in the monetary settlement.
