READ MOREToday, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) kicks off its Global Asbestos Awareness (GAAW) activities. This year, ADAO’s GAAW initiative is titled “EXPOSED –The Facts About Asbestos,” and its goal is to raise international awareness about the dangers of asbestos to help prevent asbestos cancers, such as mesothelioma, a rare cancer that affects the lining of the lungs.
April 1’s focus is on famous people who have been victims of asbestos. Some examples include Warren Zevon, Steve McQueen, Admiral Elmo Zumwalt and Ron Cyrus.
GAAW also coincides with the annual ADAO Global Asbestos Awareness Conference, which runs from April 1-3 in Atlanta, Ga. This conference, now in its seventh year, brings together leading international experts to discuss the impact of asbestos on public health, the environment and the economy.
