READ MOREManchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, Connecticut will pay a substantial amount to settle allegations by the U.S. Attorney’s office that the hospital had been systematically overbilling Medicare. The government had charged that between 2000 and 2004, the hospital submitted to Medicare improper claims for payment for chemotherapy and infusion therapy. While Medicare rules permit payment for just one unit of chemotherapy and infusion therapy in a single patient visit, the hospital often billed Medicare for multiple units of those two services. The hospital did not admit liability, but it did claim to take action to correct the billing irregularities at issue.
