READ MOREDemocratic lawmakers in Minnesota are backing a state False Claims Act. Backers say the law would help to save millions for the state by encouraging employees of state contractors to report fraud against the government. The proposed legislation would give whistleblower employees up to thirty percent of settlements or awards from contractors that intentionally defraud the state. The federal government and 21 other states have already enacted similar legislation, which is often used to root out cases of Medicaid and other health care fraud.
Not surprisingly, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America opposes the bill.
