LOS ANGELES (April 1, 2016) – The national law firm Baron & Budd proudly announces that attorney Mark Pifko has been named to Law360’s Rising Stars for 2016. The list is comprised of attorneys under the age of 40 who have achieved significant accomplishments in their respective practice areas. Out of more than 1,100 submissions from law firms across the country, only 179 attorneys were named to the list and only 5 were selected in the class action area in which Pifko practices.
Pifko has established himself as a passionate, effective consumers’ rights advocate, and has more than a decade of experience in complex litigation. Since joining Baron & Budd in 2011, he has successfully represented clients in several high-profile class action cases concerning a wide range of products and services. These include cases impacting a variety of industries, including food products, cosmetics, motor vehicles, banking and sporting goods.
For example, Pifko helped obtain a settlement of more than $10 million on behalf of owners and lessees of Mini Cooper vehicles regarding automatic transmission failures. (In re: Brad Aarons, et al. v. BMW of North America, LLC, Case No. 2:11-cv-07667-PSG (C.D. Cal.)) Pifko also helped successfully resolve a class action lawsuit against the maker of Muscle Milk protein drinks that led to a $5.3 million settlement. (In re: Claire Delacruz v. CytoSport, Inc., Case No. 4:11-cv-03532-CW (N.D. Cal.))
In addition, Pifko is one of three Baron & Budd attorneys who is currently representing plaintiffs in an approximately $150 million lawsuit against Wells Fargo & Co for allegedly overcharging homeowners for broker’s price opinions. (In re: Latara Bias, et al. v. Wells Fargo & Co., et al., Case No. 4:12-cv-00664 (N.D. Cal.)) He also currently represents plaintiffs in a multi-million dollar class action against Nissan, alleging the company failed to disclose problems that can lead to engine failure in certain vehicles. (In re: Kobe Falco, et al. v. Nissan North America, Inc., et al., Case No. 2:13-cv- 00686-DDP (C.D. Cal.))
“We could not be prouder to have Mark on our team, and our firm is honored that he has been selected to this prestigious list,” said Roland Tellis, head of Baron & Budd’s Consumer Class Action group. “He is passionate about representing the interests of his plaintiffs and affecting positive change, and has skillfully taken on numerous powerful corporations in class action cases.”
