A huge government-financed study released on November 4, 2010 has shown that annual CT scans of current and former heavy smokers can reduce risk of lung cancer death by 20 percent. This finding represents an enormous advance for the medical and research community and new hope for people who are grappling with this disease. Lung cancer will claim approximately 157,000 lives this year alone – more than colorectal, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers combined.
