Baron & Budd, P.C. | Protecting What's Right

Consumer Scams

We are proud to be a consumer advocacy law firm, going up against some of the largest and most powerful corporations in the country, such as Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo, to protect consumers from deceptive business practices that benefit greedy corporations by scamming consumers out of their hard-earned money –sometimes without their knowledge.

In the bank overdraft litigation, Baron and Budd took on Bank of America and other banks accused of manipulating debit transactions to maximize overdraft fees. Through our work on the court-appointed committee that represented consumers in the case, we helped negotiate a $410 million settlement with Bank of America on behalf of consumers. More importantly, the case caused Bank of America and other banks across the country to change their overdraft policies.

We’ve also gone after other banks, such as Chase and Wells Fargo, for insurance and mortgage fraud where the banks ultimately manipulated fees, deliberately misled homeowners or committed outright fraud. While we hope that you haven’t been affected by any of these scams, know that Baron and Budd stands ready to fight on your behalf.

Sadly, consumers can be scammed in other ways too, and one of the fast-growing consumer scam areas revolves around credit card information used for Internet purchases. For example, we have taken on online company ProFlowers, which has been accused of misusing consumer credit card information without a consumer’s knowledge and working with a program called Easy Saver Rewards, which misled consumers about online "rewards" programs and ultimately charged consumers’ credit cards monthly fees without their consent.

If you think you have been scammed, even if it was not by one of these companies, contact us. Sadly, there are countless consumer scams lurking out there, and we are always investigating new ways to help consumers.
