TxDOT Dump Truck Involved in Fatal Crash

October 19, 2016  |  Serious Accidents

A Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) employee was killed when the dump truck owned he was driving overturned into a ditch. The accident occurred near the East Texas town of Bronson.

An Ongoing Investigation

The dump truck was traveling in the southbound lane of Farm-to-Market Road 1 when it suddenly crossed over from the northbound lane. The truck then overturned in a nearby ditch. The driver was ejected and died immediately, and the dump truck hit a pine tree with so much force that the top of the tree was snapped.

Investigators were immediately dispatched to the scene, but no further information had been released regarding why the accident occurred.

All-Too Familiar

We are not going to speculate as to why this particular tragedy happened, of course, but we have seen far too many instances of fatal crashes involving large commercial vehicles. Speed is often a factor in fatal trucking accidents, but there are many other times where some sort of malfunction occurs due to improper maintenance or the unexpected failure of a critical part.

Whenever a trucking accident takes place, the results are often catastrophic. And the fault often lies with circumstances beyond the driver’s control.
