Russell Budd Recognized as 2023 Trailblazers Plaintiffs’ Lawyer by the National Law Journal

Budd was recognized for his impact on the legal profession and his outstanding career litigating complex cases all over the country.

DALLAS – The national law firm of Baron & Budd is pleased to announce that President and Managing Shareholder Russell W. Budd has been recognized as a 2023 Trailblazers Plaintiffs’ Lawyer by The National Law Journal. The award recognizes legal professionals who have made a significant impact on the practice or policy in their area. The selection committee remarked that they were impressed by Budd’s long career as a plaintiff’s attorney handling cases ranging from asbestos to opioids.

Budd has more than four decades of experience representing victims of corporate wrongdoing and has been a trailblazer for the entirety of his career. Budd’s leadership is unrivaled, and he has played a major role in many of the largest cases to ever hit the U.S. court system. Serving as a Baron & Budd shareholder since 1985 and president and managing shareholder since 2002, Budd presides over one of the nation’s largest plaintiffs’ firms. Baron & Budd has achieved national acclaim for its work, trying hundreds of cases to verdict and settling tens of thousands of cases for hundreds of billions of dollars in areas of litigation as diverse as pharmaceuticals, mesothelioma, water contamination, fraudulent banking practices, and other consumer fraud issues.

Most recently, Budd was appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Settlement Negotiation Team for In re National Prescription Opiate Litigation, MDL 2804. Together with co-counsel, Budd and his firm represent more than 700 public entities and 8 states’ Attorneys General in litigation against prescription opioid manufacturers, distributors, and dispensers. The Settlement Negotiation Team has negotiated more than $46 billion in settlements with the nation’s largest drug distributors, manufacturers, and dispensers. Budd also successfully negotiated combined settlements from pharmacies of $274 million in New Mexico.
