For the second year straight, Dallas environmental law attorney Scott Summy of Baron & Budd, P.C., has earned selection as one of the top attorneys in the country in the prestigious Best Lawyers in America survey.
Like every lawyer on the 2007 Best Lawyers list, Mr. Summy was nominated by other attorneys for this exclusive honor, which is based on Mr. Summy’s work in toxic tort litigation.
Mr. Summy is widely recognized for his groundbreaking legal work involving groundwater pollution. He leads Baron & Budd’s water contamination litigation division, which has the largest legal staff and most extensive resources for this form of complex litigation in the country.
“Water is the most precious resource we have. It is something we all need to be concerned about,” says Mr. Summy. “At Baron & Budd, we have made our water practice one of the most important aspects of our firm.”
Mr. Summy successfully filed and litigated the first MTBE contamination cases in the country. Even in small amounts, MTBE, a common gasoline additive and known animal carcinogen, can taint groundwater reserves. MTBE is now the second most frequently detected contaminant found in drinking water in the United States.
Mr. Summy’s water litigation team represents approximately 200 cities and public water suppliers across the country, as well as the state of New Mexico and hundreds of private well owners.
For attorneys to gain inclusion in the Best Lawyers list, they must go through a rigorous peer-review survey that has been developed and refined for nearly 25 years. The latest edition of Best Lawyers is based on 1.8 million confidential evaluations by the top attorneys across the country. The entire list can be viewed at www.bestlawyers.com.
