California Governor Declares State of Emergency in Porter Ranch

January 8, 2016  |  Environmental

In California yesterday, Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency and ordered new regulations and safety measures for all natural gas storage facilities in the state amid the ongoing methane gas leak in Porter Ranch.

Brown’s action came after weeks of demands by residents, activists and local officials for the governor to intervene… The governor ordered state agencies to “utilize all necessary state personnel, equipment, and facilities to ensure a continuous and thorough response to this incident.”

The leaking well at SoCal Gas’ storage facility in Aliso Canyon has already displaced thousands of Porter Ranch residents. Learn more here.
