New Canaan, Connecticut hospital resolves False Claims Act allegations

January 29, 2009  |  Press Releases

The Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut has agreed to settle federal False Claims Act allegations made by the U.S. Attorney. Silver Hill, a psychiatric hospital and rehabilitation center, was alleged to have submitted claims to Medicare and Medicaid for payment of a hospital nurse who had been excluded from federal health-care programs after her license was revoked. The nurse was listed in an online database created by federal health agencies to track organizations and individuals ineligible for payments for the provision of health-care services. The investigation was part of a larger review of health-care providers that fail to adhere to the exclusion database put together by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in conjunction with the Office of the Inspector General.
