DALLAS–(November 1, 2010)–Baron & Budd, P.C. is sponsoring the “Shine a Light on Lung Cancer” Dallas Vigil to raise awareness for lung cancer. The Dallas Vigil is part of a national initiative by the Lung Cancer Alliance to support those affected by lung cancer and raise awareness of this underfunded and misunderstood cancer. Vigils will take place across the country on Nov. 4. The Dallas vigil is being organized by Southern Methodist University student August Knape.
“Lung cancer has a stigma as the smoking cancer, but the evidence is mounting that environmental causes like asbestos are causing a surge in lung cancer in people, particularly women, who have never smoked,” said Russell Budd, President & Managing Shareholder of Baron & Budd. “We are honored to support Lung Cancer Alliance in raising awareness of this overlooked cancer.”
Each year, lung cancer takes more lives than breast, prostate, and colon cancers combined. This year alone, 25,000 women who have never smoked will be diagnosed with lung cancer.
Keynote speakers at the vigil include Dr. Joan Schiller, Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center and Deputy Director of Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center and Lynne Anderson, Managing Editor of CURE Magazine and a Pulitzer Prize finalist for explanatory journalism.
The “Shine a Light on Lung Cancer” Dallas Vigil will be Thursday, Nov. 4 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on the steps of Dallas Hall at Southern Methodist University. The public is invited to attend. There is no charge for admission. For more information, visit http://shinealightonlungcancer.kintera.org/central/dallas/.
