Multi-Truck Accident in Arlington Kills 1

A fatal accident involving three large trucks killed one man and shut down a major Arlington, TX street on June 21. This is just the latest in a long line of tragedies involving big rigs that have shattered lives and altered families forever across the country.

Another Life Tragically Lost

According to Arlington police, the accident involved a sanitation truck, an 18-wheeler and a dump truck. The driver of the sanitation truck was travelling southbound on Collins St. and attempting to make a turn when his vehicle hit the 18-wheeler as well as the other truck. The sanitation truck flipped on its side, killing the driver.

The dump truck driver suffered non-life threatening injuries, while the 18-wheeler driver was not hurt.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reports that crashes involving large trucks killed more than 3,600 people in 2014 – 16 percent more than in 2009. This particular accident was somewhat of an anomaly in that it only involved trucks. According to the IIHS, 68 percent of the people who died in large truck accidents were either occupants or drivers of passenger vehicles, while 16 percent of fatalities were drivers or occupants of trucks.
