Rilwan Adeduntan joined Baron & Budd as a shareholder in January 2026. He is part of the firm’s Opioid Litigation Group, which represents clients in multidistrict and nationwide lawsuits addressing corporate fraud and misconduct, seeking to recover damages and provide restitution to victims affected by corporate wrongdoing.
Mr. Adeduntan is a highly accomplished trial attorney and leader who, before joining the firm, served for more than seventeen years as a federal and state prosecutor. He held senior prosecutorial roles in the United States Attorney’s Offices for the Southern District of Florida and the District of Massachusetts, as well as in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in Boston.
During his federal and state prosecutorial career, Mr. Adeduntan handled an exceptionally broad spectrum of cases, from complex financial crimes to violent offenses, and tried more than 60 jury trials to verdict. He conducted long-term investigations and prosecuted matters including money laundering, Ponzi schemes, securities and bank fraud, wire fraud, cyber intrusion, embezzlement, and tax evasion. He also tried cases involving violent crime, gang activity, narcotics trafficking, arms violations, espionage, and child exploitation.
Before joining the District of Massachusetts, Mr. Adeduntan successfully prosecuted, among other complex, high-stakes matters, a trial against the leaders of a violent drug trafficking and money laundering organization and one of their associates. The case involved a more than 40-count indictment, including charges of continuing criminal enterprise, money laundering, murders, and drive-by shootings, with dozens of witnesses and extensive exhibits. The trial, one of the most challenging of his career, demonstrates his ability to manage large, complex investigations and secure convictions in high-impact matters.
Throughout his career, Mr. Adeduntan has held key supervisory roles. In the Southern District of Florida, he served as Deputy Chief of the International Narcotics and Money Laundering Section, leading prosecutors investigating and prosecuting high-level drug traffickers and money launderers, and as Deputy Chief of the Major Crimes Section, he oversaw prosecutors handling sex trafficking, violent gangs, Hobbs Act robbery, obstruction of justice, and other complex criminal matters. In Massachusetts, he served as Chief of the Narcotics and Money Laundering Unit, supervising the district’s largest prosecutorial team while managing and serving as the district’s opioid coordinator.
Mr. Adeduntan began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in Boston. He later served as Special Counsel and Special Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, overseeing the Governor’s Drug Lab Task Force. He was recognized with the Newman A. Flanagan Award for Outstanding Superior Court Prosecutor of the Year in 2014 and was also named a Boston Rising Star by the National Law Journal and Connecticut Law Tribune that year.
He is deeply committed to legal education and mentorship, serving as visiting faculty for trial advocacy programs at Harvard Law School, Emory University School of Law, and the University of Miami School of Law, and as a member of the Board of Trustees of New England Law Boston. “Teaching trial advocacy is a way to sharpen my own skills while giving back to the next generation of attorneys,” Mr. Adeduntan says. His dedication to mentorship has been recognized with multiple awards, including the United States Attorney’s Office Mentor of the Year Award. “The law, at its best, is a tool to hold people and institutions accountable and protect those who have been harmed,” he adds.
Before pursuing the law, Mr. Adeduntan was a highly competitive athlete. He earned a full basketball scholarship at Brewton Parker College and later transferred to the University of Georgia with an academic scholarship, intending to continue his basketball career. Following a knee injury that ended his athletic aspirations, he redirected his drive and focus to the law. Mr. Adeduntan brought the same resilience, teamwork, and competitive spirit from athletics into prosecution and litigation, trading the basketball court for the courtroom. “Just as I once competed as an athlete, I approach every case with the same drive, teamwork, and focus,” Mr. Adeduntan says. “For me, the courtroom is my hardwood, and every case, whether in federal prosecution or now at Baron & Budd, is a chance to step onto the biggest stage, where preparation, focus, and teamwork can make a real difference in people’s lives.” Drawing on nearly 20 years of trial experience, Mr. Adeduntan offers seasoned courtroom skill, proven leadership, and an unrelenting commitment to accountability. He is excited to bring that experience to Baron & Budd as the firm takes on powerful corporations that deceive the public, exploit consumers, and profit at the expense of people’s lives.
When he is not focused on the law, Mr. Adeduntan enjoys spending time with his wife and family. He especially loves stacking days with his daughter, short daily agility workouts that, over time, develop skill, strength, and confidence.
