Calista Somer is an associate in the Washington, D.C. offices of Baron & Budd. She joined the firm in 2025 and works in our Opioid Litigation Group.
Ms. Somer earned her bachelor’s degree with high honors in behavioral neuroscience from Lehigh University in 2020. In 2024, Ms. Somer earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law, where she was awarded a full tuition scholarship and served as an Associate Executive Editor of the American University International Law Review.
During law school, Ms. Somer served as a student attorney in the Decarceration and Reentry Clinic, where she represented an incarcerated client in connection with parole proceedings. Ms. Somer also completed two internships in the U.S. Department of Justice. First, she worked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia’s Capitol Siege Section, where she assisted federal prosecutors with criminal cases stemming from the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. She later interned in the Criminal Division’s Public Integrity Section, where she supported federal prosecutors in matters involving public corruption and election crimes.
Before joining Baron & Budd, Ms. Somer served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Judge Carl Ezekiel Ross in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. There, she researched and drafted judicial orders in complex civil and post-conviction criminal matters.
Ms. Somer chose to pursue a career in law out of a longstanding commitment to public service, and a belief in the law’s potential as a powerful tool to achieve justice and accountability. In her free time, Ms. Somer enjoys playing tennis, practicing yoga, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
