Celebrations Planned in More Than 100 Countries

DALLAS (June 5, 2015) – The national law firm of Baron & Budd is commemorating World Environment Day, which will be observed in more than 100 countries worldwide on June 5. Created by the United Nations (UN), World Environment Day is a chance to encourage awareness and action regarding environmental issues.

The theme of this year’s World Environment Day is “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.” The UN expects the number of events held across the globe in observance of the occasion to continue to increase. In 2014, World Environment Day generated more than 3,000 events in more than 100 countries – an all-time high.

The UN is using the day as a chance to increase awareness of the fact that the Earth’s population is consuming natural resources at a rate that far exceeds the planet’s ability to replenish them.

According to the UN, economic development and a high population growth rate is leading the planet to the point where saving ecosystems may be no longer possible. The organization states that if the Earth’s population reaches 9.6 billion by 2050, it would take three Earth-sized planets to sustain mankind’s consumption needs.

“We applaud the efforts of the UN to increase awareness of the fragility of our planet by spearheading events such as World Environment Day,” said Russell Budd, president and managing shareholder of the national law firm of Baron & Budd. “It is up to all of us to learn how to live sustainably so that future generations can continue to enjoy our planet’s resources.”

The national law firm of Baron & Budd has a long history of helping to safeguard the environment, with several successes in the areas of asbestos litigation and water contamination. Baron & Budd’s Environmental Law Group, for instance, has represented businesses and individuals harmed by the 2010 Gulf oil spill, and also represented more than 150 public water utilities in a settlement over drinking water contamination due to MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether), a gasoline additive.
