The Virginia state legislature’s House Commerce and Labor Committee have voted down two bills that would have ensured insurance coverage for homeowners with defective Chinese drywall.

One bill would have allowed homeowners to seek property damage claims for damage to their homes caused by the defective drywall; the other would have disallowed insurers from either canceling policies or raising rates on homes built with the drywall. However, committee members found the bills warranted more study, and some committee members questioned whether insurance companies should provide relief to homeowners for the drywall.
