Product safety regulators with the U.S. and China will meet in China in October to discuss the safety of products manufactured in China and imported to the United States. The countries will review measures to ensure a mutual understanding of the need for manufacturers to meet U.S. requirements for product safety for issues like lead in toys, to meet voluntary standards, and to understand recalls. Chinese officials and manufacturers will also be trained on U.S. requirements. 72The U.S. delegation will be led by Consumer Product Safety Commission chairwoman Inez Tenenbaum.
Hazardous imports from China, like contaminated Chinese drywall, have received significant press coverage in recent months, and meetings like this one are important to developing and enforcing safety standards, as well as rebuilding confidence in U.S. efforts to regulate product safety.
