Stand Against Elder Abuse This National Cheer Up the Lonely Day
Many of you may be shocked to discover just how prevalent elder abuse may be.
Luckily, there’s something you can do to help: You can take a stand. Just take the example of Francis Pesek of Detroit, Michigan. After witnessing the severe loneliness present in nursing homes, Pesek founded the new July 11th holiday, Cheer Up the Lonely Day. It’s just one example that shows how everyday people can stand up for what they believe in and help their loved ones.
At Baron & Budd, we’ve seen how there tends to be two types of people in this world.
There are the people who see injustice but turn a blind eye — maybe they are too busy, too stressed or feel they have nothing to personally offer to fight the injustice. And then there are the people who, no matter how heavy the burden, stand up and fight. They don’t fall under pressure; they don’t talk themselves down the ladder, saying there’s nothing they can do.
We’re here for the fighters, the ones that won’t back down — the ones like Francis Pesek who stood up to do something, anything they could, to fight back against injustice.
With the epidemic of nursing home abuse and medical neglect Cheer Up the Lonely Day could not be more timely. It seems that with each breaking news piece and study — with each potential nursing home abuse lawsuit client who contacts our lawyers — the light is cast on the severity of nursing home abuse. From physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse or medical negligence — the ways for nursing homes to fail their clients and their families is immense and sad. Failing to live up to the necessary standard of care that we all expect of the homes we entrust our loved ones to… with each new case of neglect, our hopes are dashed just that much more.
So just think about what it must be like for elderly people themselves in nursing homes today! Luckily, there are people like Francis Pesek, there’s the National Cheer Up the Lonely Day holiday, and there are nursing home abuse lawyers, all committed to bringing about a little bit more kindness in this world, and standing up for the people who need it most.
