Budd to Help Oversee All Aspects of Multidistrict Litigation
DALLAS (April 11, 2016) – The national law firm of Baron & Budd proudly announces that president and managing shareholder Russell Budd has been selected co-lead counsel to represent plaintiffs filing lawsuits against the manufacturers of several fluoroquinolone antibiotics. The multidistrict litigation (MDL) case is being heard in the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota. (In Re: Fluoroquinolone Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 15-2642))
Fluoroquinolones are powerful antibiotics that are designed to treat severe urinary and respiratory infections. However, they are often prescribed for much less serious conditions. Avelox, Cipro, Levaquin and other fluoroquinolones have been linked to health complications such as ruptured tendons and nerve damage. Plaintiffs in lawsuits are alleging that the manufacturers of these drugs failed to provide adequate warnings to patients and doctors of their potential dangers.
U.S. District Judge John R. Tunheim appointed Budd as well as Bill Robins III of Heard Robins Cloud LLP as co-lead counsel. In his role, Budd will help to manage all aspects of the fluoroquinolone MDL. His responsibilities will include helping to take the lead in litigating the case on behalf of all plaintiffs and making strategic, tactical and procedural decisions. He will also share responsibility for identifying witnesses for depositions, conferring with defendants regarding procedural matters, forming committees for specific litigation tasks and much more.
In addition, Baron & Budd attorney Thomas Sims has been named a member of the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee. Sims and the other members of the committee will help coordinate plaintiffs’ pre-trial activities and plan for trial.
“I am extremely honored and pleased to receive the privilege of serving as co-lead counsel in this important case,” said Budd. “Judge Tunheim has appointed a very impressive team of attorneys to leadership positions, and we are ready to get to work on behalf of plaintiffs across the country.”
