Manatee County homeowners with Chinese drywall to get tax break

October 15, 2009  |  Other, Chinese Drywall, Press Releases

Homeowners in Manatee County, Florida with tainted Chinese drywall will get the assessed value of their homes reduced by 50 percent, according the Manatee County Property Appraiser’s Office. Chinese drywall has been shown to sicken occupants and cause damage to home appliances and air conditioners.

The deduction was set arbitrarily, as there is still no method of determining the true impact of Chinese drywall on property values. The deduction will apply only to buildings and not land. Additionally, the tax deduction will not be retroactive or apply to homes where the drywall has been replaced.

Homeowners interested in applying for the deduction can call the Manatee County Appraiser’s Office for more information at (941) 748-8208.
