The Latest on the Wine Country Fires
The wildfires that tore through Northern California killed 42 people and destroyed nearly 9,000 structures. Thankfully, fire crews were making good progress in containing the fires as of Oct. 31.
The Board met to discuss methods for providing continuing health assistance to affected residents, as well as considering the use of a neighboring landfill for wildfire debris. The Board also discussed a resolution involving the reconstruction of nonconforming structures destroyed by the fire.
The process of recovery is gradually beginning. Unfortunately, however, it will likely take years before the area returns to anything close to normal. During this time, homeowners and business owners will have to deal with incredible challenges.
Reports indicate that equipment owned by Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) may have played a role in causing the wildfires. People who suffered losses in the tragedy may be able to file a lawsuit in order to obtain compensation.
