An editorial appearing October 21 in encouraged U.S. authorities to press China to help pay for a solution to the Chinese drywall mess–including recalling the defective drywall and compensating aggrieved homeowners. China-made products are responsible for 60% of product recalls, including toys with high lead levels, according to the editorial. It also noted that local efforts to provide relief to homeowners with tainted Chinese drywall, such as property tax breaks, are only Band-Aids.
