The Low T Epidemic: What You Need to Know About The Dangerous Side Effects of Testosterone “Therapy”
Four times as many men 40 and over take testosterone therapy today than they did in 2000. Could this mean low testosterone is the new trend in the race to preserve youth at any cost? The ads marketing “low T” treatment sure seem to suggest a virtual fountain of youth: increased sex drive, more muscle mass, less fatigue and better moods.
While it may seem harmless (after all, testosterone is “natural,” right?) there appear to be serious risks associated with testosterone therapy.
And when we say serious we mean it. Strokes. Heart Attacks. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Blood clotting. Pulmonary embolism (PE). These are the risks that may come with taking prescription testosterone therapy such as AndroGel, Androderm, Axiron, Striant, Fortesta and Testim.
In fact, the FDA released a safety announcement on January 31, 2014, reporting its investigation of the risk of heart attack, stroke and death in men taking FDA-approved testosterone products. This announcement was spurred by recent and troubling studies, one of which found that men under 65 with a history of heart disease were twice or even three times as likely to have a heart attack shortly after beginning testosterone therapy. This study, performed by UCLE, the National Institutes of Health and Consolidated Research Inc. and published in the Jan. 29, 2014, online edition of the journal PLOS ONE, also confirmed previous studies that found that men older than 65 and either with or without a history of heart disease were twice as likely to have a heart attack shortly after beginning testosterone therapy.
The sad part is, the medical necessity of taking testosterone therapy has never been proven. Instead, men have been seduced by the allure of the ads that promise a more youthful life.
Which leads to this: The lawyers at Baron and Budd have begun to work on this troubling issue and are available for free and confidential consultations to see whether you have a potential testosterone lawsuit if you or a loved one has been injured by Androgen, Androderm, Axiron or Testim. We are proud to announce our involvement with the testosterone litigation and believe that our work can help make sure that more men are not harmed.
