California Wildfire Victims: Help Is Available

December 8, 2017  |  Environmental, Wildfire

The out-of-control wildfires devastating northern California have resulted in dozens of deaths and the destruction of thousands of homes and businesses. More than 110,000 acres of land have been destroyed throughout Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, and Yuba counties since October 8.

Who’s at fault?

Initial news reports have linked California power company PG&E to one of the fires, noting that emergency dispatchers in Sonoma received multiple reports of downed power lines and exploding electrical transformers.

As recently as April 2017, the California Public Utilities Commission fined PG&E more than $8 million for negligence in maintaining a power line that started the Butte Fire in Amador County.

Baron & Budd currently represents victims of this fire, suing the utility company for damages including displacement expenses, lost wages and loss of property.

How wildfire victims can get help

Victims of these wildfires can contact the California Fire Lawyers, a team consisting of Baron & Budd along with California wildfire experts Singleton Law Firm, Dixon Diab & Chambers LLP, and Thorsnes Bartolotta McGuire. Singleton Law Firm was one of the four firms who represented more than 1,600 claimants in the 2007 San Diego fires, which was the largest fire case in California history and resulted in a settlement of over $1 billion.

We will accept any client with potential damages — although our main focus is helping clients make up the gap between what insurance covers and their actual losses.

All of the attorneys with the California Fire Lawyers group consider it a privilege to support the victims of these wildfires, who have lost their homes and businesses due to what may be another case of corporate negligence.
