Boston Clinical Laboratories settles Massachusetts False Claims Act suit

Boston Clinical Laboratories Inc. has settled a lawsuit alleging that the company violated the Massachusetts False Claims Act by filing false claims for payment to Medicaid. The company did not admit or deny liability but did agree to pay a substantial amount to the Massachusetts Medicaid program and the federal program. Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley said her office filed the suit in 2007, alleging that Boston Clinical intentionally filed claims for reimbursement for urine drug screening tests that were improperly ordered. Such misconduct constituted a violation of not only the Massachusetts False Claims Act, the suit alleged, but also the Massachusetts Medicaid False Claims Act.
