Summy, Pickrel, and Fiske were selected for their article, “Poison in the Well,” which appeared in the August 2016 issue of Trial Magazine. The Baron & Budd team is one of only 25 winners selected from nominations submitted by the nation’s top 1,000 most prestigious and largest law firms.
“We are extremely proud of Scott, Carla, and John for earning recognition from such a prestigious organization,” said Russell Budd, president and managing shareholder of Baron & Budd. “This is a team of deeply experienced and passionate environmental experts, which is evident in this exemplary piece of work.”
The attorneys are integral members of Baron & Budd’s Environmental Litigation Group and work closely together to pursue justice for people, businesses, water providers, and municipalities that have been harmed by water contamination and other environmental disasters caused by corporate negligence. The team currently represents the State of Washington, the Port of Portland, and the Cities of San Diego, Long Beach, San Jose, Berkeley, Oakland, Portland, Seattle, and Spokane in litigation against Monsanto arising from PCB contamination of water supplies. Summy, the leader of the practice, has secured more than $1 billion in recoveries for his clients.
The awards will be formally announced on May 22 at the 18th Annual Burton Awards Gala at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. This year, the awards ceremony will also include a special recognition for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who will receive the “Book of the Year in Law Award” for her work, My Own Words.
The Burton Awards program is funded by the Burton Foundation, a non-profit, academic effort devoted to recognizing and rewarding excellence in the legal profession. The Burton Awards honor the finest accomplishments in law, including writing, reform, public service and interest, regulatory innovation, and lifetime achievements in the profession.
