Toyota tries to discredit professor’s findings about acceleration problem
An Illinois professor who independently discovered a possible electronics flaw behind the unintended acceleration problem that resulted in the recall of some Toyota models earlier this year has faced criticism–even intimidation–by the mammoth automotive manufacturer.
David Gilbert, a professor with Southern Illinois University’s auto technology program, was one of the first engineering experts to suggest that an electronics flaw, and not sticky pedals or floor mats, were the cause of the acceleration problem that led to the recall of millions of Toyotas.
