Toyota recalling 270,000 Lexus models because of faulty engine part

Toyota Motor Corp. has announced a global recall of certain Lexus and Crown vehicles because of a defect in an engine part.  The recall will replace valve springs in certain models produced before 2008 due to a design defect that can cause the vehicle to stall.

Toyota knew about the problem in 2008, but at that time replaced a part in the spring rather than the spring itself.  Toyota has issued the latest recall because the earlier attempt to fix the problem was not effective.

The recall includes approximately 138,000 vehicles in the U.S.  Affected Lexus models sold in the U.S. are the GS350, GS450h, GS460, IS350, LS460, LS600h, and the LS600hl.  The Crown models at issue are sold in Japan.
