Sony offers software to Vaio laptop owners because of overheating risk

Sony is providing free laptop updates to Vaio laptop owners to cure the risk of overheating.  The company has received 39 reports—36 of them in the U.S.—about overheating and distortion of the computers’ shape.  Over 500,000 Vaio laptops could have the overheating problem.

Sony previously recalled 9.6 million laptop batteries in 2006 because of quality problems.

Drug maker overstated benefits, understated risks of ADHD medication

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently admonished drug company Shire Plc for language in its promotional materials for the drug Intuniv, which is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children and teens.  The FDA approved the drug last September.

According to the agency’s June 22 letter to the company, brochures in a patient starter kit made unsubstantiated claims about the drug’s effectiveness and also omitted and minimized important risk information.  The company says the promotional materials have been removed from public dissemination.
