What Do Others Say About Encore’s EZ Saver Program?
One of the ways to find out what sort of business you are dealing with is to check with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The BBB for the Mid-Atlantic region gives EMI Encore Marketing International a reliability score of D+. See the BBB Report.
Of the many people who have been fraudulently billed by Encore’s EasySaver Rewards Program, the BBB’s Mid-Atlantic office processed complaints from 375 consumers in the last 12 months and 693 complaints in the last three years. According to the BBB report, the company will generally provide a refund and cancel the consumer’s membership when the complaint is submitted to EMI by BBB.
EMI’s attitude seems to be like to that of a disreputable insurance company that denies claims it knows should be paid because only a small percentage of consumers will sue to recover what they are owed. Most people will pay—sometimes hundreds of dollars or more—for a membership they may never have wanted and don’t benefit from.
Even though EMI pays back membership fees to a small percentage of consumers, it makes far more money from the membership fees it collects and keeps. To stop or discourage this type of fraud, the law penalizes companies who engage in deceptive trade practices by increasing the amount they have to pay if they get caught.
