    Huffington Post Investigation of Atrazine Contamination

    The issue of atrazine contamination in public drinking water has received significant media attention in recent days, including a recent New York Times article and this video from the Huffington Post Investigative Fund. Baron & Budd’s water contamination litigation team, led by veteran water attorney Scott Summy, currently represents dozens of public water providers seeking to recover the costs of treating water supplies for atrazine contamination.     Widespread Atrazine Contamination Subject of New York Times Article

    Baron & Budd has been in the forefront of atrazine litigation, representing dozens of water providers from several corn-growing Midwest states that are struggling with the presence of the herbicide in their drinking water supplies. A recent New York Times article addresses the heavy commercial use of atrazine and the burden atrazine contamination places on public water providers. Atrazine use is so widespread that it is already a major groundwater contaminant and is expected to be found more and more frequently. Read More

(July 31, 2009) Melissa Hutts, shareholder at Baron & Budd, P.C., was featured on a local television station in Pittsburgh as part of a Pittsburgh Business Showcase segment on the Dallas-based law firm Baron & Budd.     Baron & Budd, P.C. Water Contamination Attorneys Selected as Finalists for 2009 Public Justice Trial Lawyer of the Year Award

    Attorneys recognized for their work on In re: Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether Products Liability Litigation MDL 1358

    DALLAS –(July 8, 2009) – Scott Summy, Celeste Evangelisti and Carla Burke, all Baron & Budd, P.C. shareholders and part of the law firm’s water contamination litigation team, were selected as finalists for the 2009 Trial Lawyer of the Year Award by the Public Justice Foundation for their work in In re: Methyl Tertiary Butyl Products Liability Litigation MDL 1358. Summy and his team negotiated a historic settlement on behalf of 153 public water providers from 17 states in which the bulk of the country’s major oil refiners agreed to pay the costs of cleaning MTBE contamination from the water supply and to clean up any new MTBE contamination that occurs in the next 30 years.

    Millbury Ave. Well and Water Treatment Facility in Millbury, Massachusetts back in service after tests show no more perchlorate

    The Millbury Ave. Well and Water Treatment Facility are back in service several weeks after perchlorate found in the water forced a temporary shutdown. The August 28th lab analysis found 10.2 parts per billion of perchlorate in the water, more than five times the amount allowed under Massachusetts 2006 Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for the chemical.     EPA and NJDEP finalize plan for cleanup of Evor Phillips Leasing Co. site in Old Bridge Township, NJ

    The EPA and the NJ Dept of Environmental Protection have finalized plans for the cleanup of the Evor Phillips Leasing Co. Superfund site. The site consists of 6 acres of contaminated soil with more than a thousand buried waste containers. Read More

    Rancho Cordova, Calif. still concerned about continuing groundwater contamination

    Aerojet and Fair Oaks Water District have planned to drill wells to monitor and try to control a plume of groundwater contamination from the Aerojet Superfund site. Trichloroethylene and 1, 4 – dioxane have been identified in the Fair Oaks plume. Some of the places proposed for drilling are on private property, and homeowners have protested, leaving plans for dealing with the plume up in the air. Read More
