Alert for Customers of Provide Commerce, Inc. Companies: Watch for Fraudulent Charges for EZ Saver Reward Program

If you bought products from the following companies, your credit or debit card may have been charged for unauthorized monthly “membership” charges in the EZ Saver Rewards Program

  • ProFlowers
  • Red Envelope
  • Cherry Moon Farms
  • Shari’s Berries
  • Secret Spoon

Every day, consumers rely more and more on online stores to do their shopping. Usually it goes smoothly, and the consumer gets—and pays for—just what he or she wanted. Unfortunately, that’s not always true. In the case of Provide-Commerce, Inc.—and its online companies ProFlowers, Cherry Moon Farms, Red Envelope, Secret Spoon and Sharri’s Berries—consumers may get what they wanted, but they pay a whole lot more, and keep paying.

After making an online purchase from these companies, you might be offered a “thank you” gift—a coupon, gift code or other reward—and sent to a different website to receive your gift. This new website, operated by Encore Marketing International (EMI, aka Regent Group, Inc.), asks for an email address and zip code. If you enter this information, you become a member of EMI’s “EZ Saver Rewards” program and are charged an activation fee and a $14.95 monthly membership fee. But sometimes, even if you refused to enter the information or accept the gift, you could still be charged activation and the monthly membership fee. Learn more about how the EZ Saver Rewards scheme works.

You wouldn’t expect to have your credit card billed for a membership when you don’t give the company any financial information. But Provide-Commerce and its companies keep consumers’ credit and debit card information and send it to EMI, its partner in this money-making scheme.

So what do these consumers get for their memberships in the “EZ Saver Rewards” program? Absolutely nothing. EMI does not confirm their membership. EMI does not communicate with them about the program or their membership. EMI does not send them any coupons, gifts or any other benefits. The only business EMI seems to do for Provide-Commerce customers is to bill their credit or debit cards every month.

Yes, plenty of people have complained about EMI, but complaints from individuals—even several hundred complaints—haven’t been able to make the company change its ways. To put pressure on companies that cheat consumers, the law provides special penalties because, unless it’s too expensive to defraud consumers, some companies just won’t stop.
